Dear Members and Friends of the Malaysian Club Deutschland,

In 2017, and with a sense of pride, MCD is looking back at 20 years of its establishment. At the same token, Malaysia’s Independence returns for the 60th time, and so do the diplomatic relationships between Germany and Malaysia.

There are hence reasons enough to proudly announce our 20th Anniversary Dinner. The event, which is co-organised by MCD and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Frankfurt, is going to be held on 02 September 2017 at the MCD’s most regular Gala venue, the Marriott Hotel in Frankfurt am Main. As in the years before, Chef Dato’ Ismail will once again grace the event with his presence, and evenly important, with his culinary excellence. Further details can be found in the attached flyer.

Thank you so much to those of you who already made sure they will be part of our great 20th Anniversary Dinner.

For everyone else:

RESERVATIONS ARE OPEN AS FROM NOW ON.
Please use the attached reservation form to ensure you get your ticket to a great Gala event.

President’s New Year Message 2017

Dear Members, Friends and Families,

First of all, on behalf of MCD’s Committee, here’s wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and hope that 2017 will bring us all joy, peace, success, prosperity and good health!

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our MCD Patron, the Malaysian Consul General in Frankfurt, Dr Adina Kamarudin, who, since her arrival into Frankfurt in 2014, has delved herself into the Club activities, provided uncountable and valuable guidance and contributions, contacts and network, support that brought MCD to the forefront.  She has exceeded in her role as Patron and become a steadfast friend and part of the family.  We look forward to her continued support in the years to come.

The backbone of MCD is the Executive and Committee Members, which was formed in September 2015, and I thank the members’ confidence in electing us during the AGM.  Without this excellent Committee, all the Club’s events would not have been organized with such flaire and success.  My sincere thanks to them for all their contributions, support and hard work since then.  They have selflessly thrown themselves immediately into organizing all the countless successful events and activities in 2015 and 2016 – now readying themselves for more in 2017.  My heartfelt gratitude also to our “veteran”, incumbent and new members who came in full force, either rejoined or joined us in these events that made it all the more colourful and successful.  Our membership list has almost tripled during the last year and a half, how amazing is that! As I look back to the past years, my heart swelled with pride and appreciation for everyone.  As the Committee’s mantra goes…. ‘so proud, so proud, so proud!’

I would be remiss not to mention the very important and integral contributions and part of MCD, our beloved MCD Ambassador and Lifetime Honorary Member, Dato’ Chef Ismail Ahmad! Dato’ Chef has been our main contributor to our MCD Galas and Malaysian Food Promotions in Frankfurt since the last 10 years.  His name is synonymous to our main events of the year, to the Marriott Frankfurt, to our Members and Friends, that stretched even across Europe!  His ever charming, humble and bubbly personality, his outstanding culinary talents and most of all, his unlimited and overflowing love and friendship to everyone he meets has made him our “cannot do without” Brother in Frankfurt!!  Thank you Chef, from the bottom of our hearts! Looking forward to see you again this year.

2016 may have been good for some of us, but also quite a roller coaster for some, with changes in the workplace and family lives.  We have lost some friends and/or family members along the way.  We pray for their souls to rest in peace.  We have also made many new friends and new additions to families.  Let us be thankful for that and treasure them.

We look forward to a more joyous, peaceful, safe and successful 2017.  This year also marks an important milestone for MCD, which is our 20 years Anniversary!!  Obviously, we have already started groundwork planning for our “Event of the Year” to celebrate this momentous occasion.  Stay tuned for more details and for other upcoming events, the next one being our Chinese New Year celebration on 29th January 2017.

With that, I wish everyone Salam Sejahtera, Alles Gute and all the very best.

Sincerely,
Rosita Rahman-Heilek
President

Chef Dato’ Ismail: “I am a heritage chef” – An Interview by Malaysia Insights

marriott-foodpromotion-2015-841

Article by Uwe Fischer

Once again, Malaysia’s Dato’ Chef Ismail will be rocking Frankfurt with his art of cuisine. From 19th to 21st of October there will be a Malaysian Food Promotion at the Marriott Hotel in Frankfurt. Organised by the Malaysian Consulate General and the Malaysian Club Germany (MCD) in collaboration with Marriott, there will be an exciting, traditional Malaysian menu prepared by Chef Ismail and Chef Thomas of Marriott. Uwe Fischer of MALAYSIA INSIGHTS had the chance to interview the VIP chef.

Dear Chef Ismail, you have officially been assigned to represent your country as a tourism advisor which is an honour that you share with only very few other Malaysian celebrities. Has that distinction and the duties connected to it affected your life a lot?

No. Actually, there is always a reason why you are chosen. I think, before that I was also a kind of ambassador for the country, especially for the gastronomy. I was always traveling, talking, drawing, cooking, acting and telling the world about the culture, the taste and the magic of the gastronomy of Malaysia.

What would you say is your reputation or your speciality as a chef?
I think I am perceived as a heritage chef of Malaysia. I believe, when you put things together, especially the ingredients, even though they have modernised the technique of producing, they shouldn’t lose the authenticity of it. So, I fight for heritage. Just last year, I published another book on Malaysian heritage food, my third one.

I understand you are very busy with travelling nowadays, do you feel you still have enough time to cook?
Yes. What I do is, wherever I’m travelling I bring my own pots and pans. So, even if I’m cooking in Germany, if I bring my pots and pans and ingredients along with me, I just feel like cooking at my home.

Malaysian food promotion in Frankfurt, Nov. 2015

You have a long relationship with Germany, because every year you compose the buffet for the annual ball of the Malaysian Club Deutschland…

…yes, already for ten years now – eight times in Frankfurt…

…so, you are already used to Germany. I guess?
Yes. I am used to Germany and I know the palates here and I also know the ingredients. I believe when people travel, food travels along. When Germans or other foreigners go to Malaysia they always go back home with memories. And then, when I come to Germany, they will say, “Aaah! Malaysian food promotion is in town! Let’s go!” Likewise, if there is some great German food promotion or whatever in Kuala Lumpur, I’d definitely go and try.

That means, you also like German food?
Yes. I like the heritage one. In fact, sometimes I do miss German foods.

Dear Dato’, thank you for this interview.

The Malaysian Food Promotion 2016 will be held at ICI Brasserie, Marriott Frankfurt from 19-21 October, 6-11pm. For more information and reservations please contact: mcd.deutschland@yahoo.com

Time: from 11am onwards

Charges: Free for registered MCD members; Euro 16 per person (non-MCD members), Euro 12 per person (non-MCD members kids between 9 and 12 years old inclusive)
Direction to Lochmuehle Park – click here

freizeitpark-lochmuehle_start

Freizeitpark Lochmühle has been an extraordinary and popular attraction in the Rhein-Main area for more than 40 years. The park grounds, which have, in the meantime, grown to 16 hectares, attract visitors from all over Germany and offer ample possibilities of retreat, even at peak times.

As a former corn mill with an agricultural enterprise the Lochmühle consciously dissociates from the large, high-tech parks. Instead of offering a few huge attractions with – often – long waiting queues, we count on variety and diversity in a rural environment.

For more information about the park – click here

Please find enclosed the flyer and registration form (Flyer-final)
We would appreciate your reservations in advance to the event, but latest by 4th September 2016.
