Malaysian Specialties Attract Crowd at Parade der Kulturen 2016

Every 2 years, members and friends of Malaysian Club Deutschland (MCD) dish out the best of Malaysian specialties at Frankfurt’s Parade der Kulturen (Parada of Cultures). The Parade is a one-day event, open to overseas clubs and societies registered in Frankfurt as part of the city’s aim to promote its potpourri of international residents. Over 100 clubs serve their respective local delicacies and handicrafts.

MCD members have been planning for more than one month what Malaysian delicacies that we would serve. Many names popped out – nasi kandar, char koay teow, mee mamak, pasembor …. but in the end, these won the day and the heart of our visitors – chicken satay with real peanut sauce (not peanut butter sauce), roti canai with dhal or curry chicken, murtabak (oh yea!), taufu sumbat (makan sampai lompat), our Perak specialties – rendang tok (beef rendang) and pineapple pajeri, curry puff, pisang goreng (banana fritter) and our world famous teh tarik, sirup limau (lime syrup) and fast- and best-selling ais batu campur (ABC).

Despite heavy shower at the start of the event, it did not stop the crowd from coming to our stall. The smell of our satay truly attracts many visitors who are curious of this specialty. In fact, these were selling like hot cakes.

“MCD Family Reunion” at CNY-2016 Do

Chinese New Year is about family reunion, rekindling good old time and renewing old friendship and making new ones. This year, after so many years, we are proud to see our “long-lost” family members back into the fold. Welcome back our “veterans” – Eddie Goh, Maureen Lucas, Monica Koo, Peggy Eng, Irene Khoo, Regina Lill and many more.

IMG-20160220-WA0023

43 members, 11 guests and 7 children warmed up the ocassion at Yan Jing Restaurant Kaiserstrassse Frankfurt. Our MCD Patron Adina Kamaruddin and spouse Mahzan Samad joined us in this celebration. Members and guests were treated with wide-spread of buffet and endless steamboat and grill. I must say this really warmed up the ocassion as we embraced snow in the middle of February. Jimmy and Amy emceed events and entertained the guests with their antics.

The guests were also entertained with traditional dance performances from the local chinese school Huan Yin in Frankfurt.

No chinese new year is ever complete without “yee sang” – a must-have for luck and prosperity. Iris Schneider and her talent team of chefs – Irene and Alison – have prepared the “yee sang”. Our guests commented on the authenticity of this dish, which reminded us of home.

Happy Diwali / Deepawali to All Hindu Members

Happy-Diwali-Images2

Wishing all our Hindu members and friends
HAPPY DEEPAVALI / DIWALI

Diwali is called the “Festival of Lights” and is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana. People lit their houses to celebrate his victory over evil (light over darkness).

The goddess of happiness and good fortune, Lakshmi, also figures into the celebration. It is believed that she roams the earth on this day and enters the house that is pure, clean, and bright. Diwali celebrations may vary in different communities but its significance and spiritual meaning is generally “the awareness of the inner light”.

Lamps, fireworks and bonfires illuminate this holiday, as the word “Deepawali” means “a row or cluster of lights” or “rows of diyas (clay lamps)”. The festival symbolizes the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness. The goddess Lakshmi, who symbolizes wealth, happiness and prosperity, is also worshipped during Diwali.

MCD “Crowns” Dato Chef Ismail at Malaysia Ball 2015

Like a high school prom, one would expect the most popular couple to be crowned the “king” and “queen” of the prom night. For the Malaysian Club Deutschland (MCD), the Malaysia Ball 2015 held on 17th October was not only its largest event ever organised but the first with a strong partnership with the Consulate-General of Malaysia in Frankfurt, Tourism Malaysia Frankfurt, Johor State Government, Yayasan Warisan Johor (Johor Heritage Foundation) and Johor Tourism Board.

In addition, this event was also an appreciation to the “Star of the Night” – Dato Chef Ismail Ahmad, MCD’s “Ambassador to Malaysia” – who has tirelessly for the last 8 years cooked and entertained our members, friends and guests. The close relationship between Dato Chef Ismail and MCD was further strengthened when the club president Rosita Rahman-Heilek “crowned” Dato Chef Ismail the official MCD Chef that night in front of the Malaysian Ambassador to Germany Dato Zulkifli Adnan, Deputy Speaker Johor Legislative Assembly Dato’ Haji Baderi Dasuki, Consular-General of Malaysia in Frankfurt Dr. Adina Kamaruddin and other distinguished guests.
