Dear Members and Friends,
Happy New Year and here’s wishing everyone all the very best of Health, Joy, Peace, Happiness and Love for 2019!
First of all, I would like to thank all our members, friends and their families for all the wonderful support towards Malaysian Club Deutschland e.V. through the years. We are proud to say that MCD will turn 22 years old in 2019! How time flies!
The Executive Members would also like to warmly welcome all our new members and families in 2018, and look forward to seeing more of you this year during our events and get-togethers, and thank you to all our loyal, incumbent and veteran members for being there all these years.
2018 has been a busy year for all of us, and we are happy to report that we have held some very successful events throughout the year, as listed below:
1. Annual General Meeting – Sun, 28 Jan 2018 held at Ici Brasserie, Marriott:
• A large number of new and present members attended –came to elect the new Executive Committee, mingle and meet. Coffee/Tea and cakes were served.
2. Chinese New Year – Sun, 04 Mar 2018 held at Yan Jing Restaurant, Frankfurt:
• Over 80 members and friends attended. Dance performance by our Committee Members brought colour to the event. Hot pot (steam boat) and buffet enjoyed by all. Little ones received Ang Pows, much to their delight.
3. Hari Raya Puasa – Sun, 16 Jun 2018 held at Kanu Club, Frankfurt:
• Perfect day to celebrate – sunny weather in a location on the bank of River Main. It was a full house with members and friends who came in their beautiful kebayas and baju kurungs to help celebrate! Muhibbah at it’s best. Typical Msian Hari Raya Buffet (Rendang, Lodeh, sambal goreng, ketupat, etc) entirely cooked by Committee Members at Jac Bubenheim’s home, much thanks to Jac & Ralf. After lunch, everyone participated in our Joget session.
4. Winery Tour –- Sat, 23 June 2018 held at Weingut-Lindenhof:
• Thanks to one of our loyal members, Roland Bernhardt, offered to organize a truly enjoyable Brunch at a great location. This was followed by a tour in 2 large wagons through the vineyards, where everyone enjoyed “picking” the sweet grapes on the vines – and made a run for it!
5. Gala 2018 – Sat, 15 Sep 2018, at the Marriott Frankfurt:
• Our annual big event. 180 glamorously dressed guests came to enjoy the evening – opening song by our mini member kids with Malaysia Ku song. Our talented MC’s, Dato’ Chef Ismail and Committee Member Leeza Yeo entertained the crowd from start to finish, much to the enjoyment of everyone. Chinese & Indian dance performances and Lucky Draw were held. First prize ticket was sponsored by Turkish Airlines and won by one of our lucky sponsors, Frau Kessler. As each year, our Star Celebrity Chef was flown in to prepare the most excellent Malaysian “Street Food” themed buffet, assisted by his team of “Kitchen Angels” made up of our members.
6. Book Fair 2018 – Oct 10-14 at Messe Frankfurt:
• We were honoured to be offered the opportunity to provide manpower and catering services by the Malaysian National Institute of Language and Literature and National Book Council in the Malaysian Pavilion. Committee Members Leeza Yeo and Bavani Schmittmann took on this project and offered local specialties for the participants and their guests.
7. Deepavali – Sun, 11 Nov 2018 at Delhi Tandoori Frankfurt:
• Although a smaller number of attendees compared to last year, the 35 strong turned up to our regular venue for Deepavali, livening up the place with Bollywood dancing and sit down lunch of delicious Indian delicacies. We had some fun games played that brought a lot of laughter!
8. Christmas Lunch – Sun, 16 Dec 2018 at Zum Storch, Frankfurt:
• Another full house, 34 guests turned up to celebrate Christmas, starting with Christmas carols, mostly indulging in the traditional roast goose dish. Most awaited for Santa Claus paid a visit to distribute presents to everyone!
I want to also take this opportunity to thank our awesome, most hard working, flexible and giving Executive and Committee Members, without whom all these would not have been possible. Not only they spent time and effort to help in organizing and cooking, those with children made extra effort to rearrange their schedule to be available. From the bottom of my heart, I am ever grateful for this strong support and dedication towards the Club, and that is what makes it so special.
With the new year starting, the Committee will be meeting up soon to work on our year’s events and activities for everyone to join and enjoy. The first one coming up real soon will Chinese New Year, which will fall on 05 February 2019. We are planning to hold this event around mid-February, stay tuned for more news on this and other events via our Facebook page: Malaysian Club Deutschland.
As always, we look to you, members, for feedback, suggestions and ideas of what we can do more and better, any activities that you would like to see organized – or if you would like to organize something, all are welcome. Please feel free to write to us at : mcd.deutschland@yahoo.com.
With that, on behalf of the Committee, I wish you all the best of health, joy, happiness, love, success and prosperity for the coming year and we look forward to seeing and hearing from you.

Rosita Rahman-Heilek
